Homemade Pickles vs. Debt

GroceryBill

Living within your means is easier said than done.  It is easy enough to make a budget that shows you how little money you have for groceries and discretionary expenses, but all of those personal finance experts with their six-figure incomes scolding you about stopping at Starbucks on the way from your day job to your evening job only make those overpriced lattes more tempting.  The hardest part of sticking to a budget is passing the time until your next payday.  Inexpensive social activities and nearby supermarkets with an abundance of affordable fresh vegetables are a luxury for the rich, but even you can afford a vegetable pickling project to pass the time until your next payday.  Trekking to Costco with your cousin’s membership card and dedicating a few evenings to the pickling operation is no substitute for a living wage and affordable healthcare, but it will take your mind off of how long it will be, according to your budget, until you can afford your next Chipotle meal.  To find out more about long-term solutions to debt and the small steps that will get you there, contact a Jupiter debt lawyer.

Slow but Steady Wins the Race Against Debt

One of the hardest parts of sticking to a budget is taking your mind off of how broke you are, even when you have no free time.  Going for a walk in the park every day is much easier for rich people than it is for you; the park is a long bus ride away, and you are always at work or commuting during daylight hours, when the park is open.  When you aren’t at work, there is nothing to do but watch YouTube, so tonight, why not watch videos about homemade pickles.  Not only will you find out what makes the pickles at Chick-fil-A taste the way they do, you might even gain some insights into the pickled mixed vegetables your grandmother used to make when you were a child.  Rinse out some empty jars that once contained store bought pickles and set the intention to refill them with homemade ones.

On your next day off from work, have a friend drive you to a supermarket with a great selection of veggies, or share the cost of an Uber with a neighbor.  Fill the jars with dried spices you already have.  Make your brine out of salt, vinegar, and water.  Cut up the vegetables and stuff the jars, and then pour in the brine and seal the jars.  Then go back to your unrelenting work schedule.  By your next payday, you will have homemade pickles that you can eat, share, and brag about.

Can Pickling Vegetables Make You Wealthier?

No, the pickles will not pay off your debts, but they are a way to mark the passage of time.  One jar of pickles ready to eat means one fewer BNPL installment you still owe and one step closer to your bankruptcy filing disappearing from your credit report.  Homemade pickles will not make you rich unless you turn them into a business, but they never made anyone poorer.
